NataLee 9-1-1: Giving Art More Presence

Beth from Nebraska writes:

Hi Natalee,

I really like this picture on my livingroom wall, but it’s a little small and I’d like to punch it up a little. Do you have some creative ideas I could use on this wall to add more “presence” to this picture. Any other suggestions you might have for this room would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

Hi Beth!

I have actually seen this painting before and I love it too.  Let me start out by saying your existing furniture is beautiful!

The first thing I would do is a furniture rearrange. Take your larger sofa and place it where the chair is now  facing the window.

Place the end table between the sofa and loveseat. Place the paisley chair on a 45 degree angle next to the window facing your new conversation area. Then I would take the black bookcase where the picture is now.

Then place the console table where the bookcase was.  Hang the painting over the console. If it still doesn’t have the presence you want, add moulding and paint out like the picture below.

Here is another example.

I would suggest replacing your existing lamps with something a little more substantial and flanking them on either side of the art.

I would also like to see a little of the blue in the art pulled into the room… maybe by way of some pillows.

Here are some possible fabric options I would possibly suggest… I found them on www.housefabric.com, maybe some of all of them…. I know it seems a little odd, but I find mixing different fabrics makes for a really nice look.

Well Beth, I hope my tips help!  We would love to see the finished product!
