Hello everyone! I will be posting another video tutorial for the faux granite counters very shortly. There are a few more videos (and a lot of photos) in the series, and I plan to do a whole lot more this year in general. It seems only appropriate beings that my degree is in broadcast journalism. The only reason I haven’t posted them before is due to lack of equipment compatibility. However, I think I have found a temporary fix by using my digital camera, but I hope to do something with a little higher quality video in the future.
Since I will be in my paint clothes no hair done and hardly any make up in this next tutorial, I figured it was a good time to do a get to know you session, because I only let my goodfriends see me without makeup on. So I guess that would make us good friends now… especially the fact that I am doing a video tutorial when I am 30 pounds over what I normally weigh! Ugh! But I’m not going to apologize for that, because I had two adorable babies 18 months apart, so what’s a girl to do other than wear it proud as a badge of honor? I will lose it eventually, but probably not until I stop nursing my baby. I am one of the unlucky few who retain my baby weight until I stop nursing. But even then, I am sure there will have to be some additional hard work and discipline to get those last pounds off.
So you will have to bear with me on that…
I know that another design blogger (http://www.addicted2decorating.com/ – one of my favorites) also recently posted a get to know you… and I swear I am not purposely copying her idea. This is something I have been thinking about and wanting to do for more than a month. But I guess they say great minds think alike! 😉
Before we get started here, I wanted to thank all of you for your support! I saw tremendous growth here on Designed to the Nines recently and I hope that trend continues, as it will mean more projects and more exciting things for 2012!
So here’s some fun mindless Q&A to get to know your design friend a little better… if I miss something, just leave it in the “Comments” area and I’ll be sure to answer if I can!
What is your family makeup?
I am married to the cutest guy I have ever crushed on! His name is Greg and he still makes my heart flutter. I have an 11 year old daughter named RyLee and I have two sons: a 2 year old (on Wednesday) and a 6 month old (Conner and Camden). My family is the singular most important think in my life. They come first before anything else. So if a post I have promised gets delayed, it’s probably because I feel like they were in need of me. Please accept my advance apologies.
What is your favorite color?
I LOVE color! It’s hard to pick a favorite. That’s why my house has MANY different colors. I am always trying to come up with new color combinations to play with that maybe you wouldn’t think to try. Like my formal living area: gray, brown, cream, and kind of a mint green. Sounds weird, but it totally works.
Sushi and Costa Vida (similar to Café Rio, but a little better in my opinion)… and Diet Coke, although I have hardly had any Diet Coke for nearly 3 years due to being pregnant and nursing…I look forward to some when I am no longer nursing.
Yes, it’s true. I love the Twilight series, book and movies. Sorry if that disappoints, but I do! =)
What’s the #1 most played song on your iPod?
iPod. What iPod?? Living in the stone ages over here, but on my high tech CD player 😉 we are listening a lot to Bruno Mars’ “Let it Rain” because my 2 year old loves it so much and I melt every time I here him sing, “Wain, wain, wain!” I have the most adorable kids. 😉
What is one of your favorite quotes?
Find out who you are and do it on purpose… by Dolly Parton via “A Walk to Remember”
What’s your favorite indoor/outdoor activity?
Indoor activity?? Well, I sincerely hope this obvious to all of you who follow this blog. =) Outdoor… ride a roller coaster or something that gets my adrenaline pumping! I love a good thrill.
What chore do you absolutely hate doing?
It’s a toss up between dishes and laundry… but if I had to go with just one, since my dishes get done much more frequently than laundry, I guess it would be laundry. I guess it’s a little mundane for me.
What is your favorite form of exercise?
Dancing… I used to do it all the time. In fact, fun little fact about me is I used to teach dance for many years and was even a dance major at one point. But I haven’t for a few years. Anyone want to start a (just for fun) dance group with me? I could use a little exercise/dance to lose the baby weight!
What is your favorite time of day/day of the week/month of the year?
Favorite time of day: morning snuggling in bed with my kids.
Day of the week: Saturday, try and do something interesting and fun.
Month: Any month in the Spring, everything is fresh the weather is wonderful, so hard to be in a bad mood. Happy, happy time of year. Spring was just here yesterday and I hope today too… one of the perks of living in Arizona 82 degrees on January 1st!
What’s your least favorite mode of transportation?
Moving vans. Let’s just say I’ve seen my share…Enough said!
What sound do you love?
A baby laughing. Is there really anything better??
If you knew the world was ending in 2012, what would you do differently?
Oooo…. Hot topic! What do you think? Are the Mayans right? Is the world coming to an end??? I think I would spend less time stressing out and more time letting little stuff go…and more time loving my family. Wouldn’t we all?
If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?
Can we morph a few people? Spiritual: Thomas S. Monson. Professional Mentor: Oprah. Physical: Lance Armstrong. Mental: Tony Robbins. How’s that for a dream team?
If you had to work on only one project for the next year, what would it be?
A “Heart 2 Home” Design Project for someone who really, really needed it and deserved it.
If you had to change your first name, what would you change it to?
Nadia. I know it’s weird, but it sounds like a sassier version of NataLee, but still starts with the letter “N” which all my brothers and sister’s names start with. But really I like my name and the fun way my mom chose to spell it!
If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?
I would most definitely, HANDS DOWN, want to meet Jesus Christ.
If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?
Pay off every single cent of debt. The next things, take a vacation, buy real estate and start decorating.
Most overused expression?
Sorry D2Ners, I use a lot of ellipses (…). It’s due to my training in school for broadcast journalism. They use them a lot when writing their text for the teleprompters and voice over work.
Which celebrity do you get mistaken for?
Giada De Laurentiis (Food Network)… numerous times.
What do you think??
I once went to a gourmet food show in Park City, Utah where there was lots of whispering and pointing and everyone kept giving me free stuff. =) Good times!
What do you want to be when you grow up?
A cross between Oprah and Martha Stewart.
Have you ever had something happen to you that you thought was bad but it turned out to be for the best?
Getting sent home so early from Design Star… shortly upon arriving home finding out I was pregnant with my adorable son Conner. That was no consolation prize, that was THE BEST prize!
What was the last movie, TV show or book that made you cry or tear up?
Warrior. Last night. They played up the emotional aspect in that movie and I’m a cry baby.
What did you do growing up that got you into trouble?
My parents will vouch for this, I was the most obedient child ever. I really didn’t get into trouble as a child… that came later! 😉 JK.
When was the last time you had an amazing meal?
Too long! But it was the last time I had dinner at my sister in law Amy’s house. She is seriously THE best cook EVER.
What’s the best/worst gift you’ve ever given/received?
There are two gifts that mean the world to me.
One was from my little brother Nate, MANY, MANY moons ago. He was 12 and went on a trip and had a small amount of spending money. Instead of spending it on himself, he spent it all on a throw blanket with the BYU logo on it. I had recently been accepted into BYU at the time. He returned home from his trip really late at night and he laid it over me while I was asleep. I woke up to it on my lap. I still have it and it will be making its debut in my office coming up in the next couple of months.
The other, came from my husband (this will probably embarrass him so we’ll keep it between us 😉 the first time he told me he loved me, he gave me a poem he had written me… the best poem ever. It’s framed and hanging in my bedroom.
What do you miss most about being a kid?
Getting away with dancing in rain puddles in my birthday suit. 😉
The best part of waking up is?
Seeing my babies smiling at me.
Well, that’s me in a nutshell! Hope to get to know all of you more too! If you’d like tell me the most important thing I need to know about you. Or if I missed something you’re dying to know… just ask!!
ooxxooXoXXx- Can anyone name the movie this is from? =)
